Paul Dano, playing Hank Thompson, is marooned on an unknown island and on the brink of insanity. His plans for self-destruction are paused when he finds the deceased Daniel Radcliffe, playing Manny, awash on the shore. Manny has the power of speech but has forgotten everything else. They set off to find civilization whilst Hank teaches Manny what it is to be alive. The multipurpose carcass provides many uses: a water-source, fire starter, therapist, jet ski and compass (which is his penis). The central principle of the film is to not even try to make sense of it. It is unknown if Manny is dead or a glassy-eyed, gassy, limp puppet in which Hank finds companionship and counseling.
