Rothaniel (2022)

overview

Rothaniel is a HBo max TV special by stand up comedian, actor and filmmaker Jerrod Carmicheal. Observational comedy is exactly what it sounds like: observing the sublime, mundane, and stupid in everyday life and translating it into comedy for a live audience...you know...for entertainment! The show, which was beautifully shot in a Jazz Club amid lightly falling snow, is a mix of a comedy show and a therapy session in which Jerrod comes out as gay to his interactive audience in a personal way. Director Bo Burnham perfectly sets the mood in 'Rothaniel,' with a long opening shot of Carmichael gradually coming into focus as he walks down the street in a lightsnow before entering the dim, hushed Blue Note. Still from Rothaniel (2022) Trailer “Transcendental, honest, and contemporary. A conversation, and I mean conversation, about the secrets we keep. It's light and airy. Interaction with the audience is sprinkled throughout. But that doesn't draw attention away from the structure, which is stunning”

sPOILER aLERT!

Spoiler alert: Despite the fact that news outlets have already discussed parts of the special, I won't give anything away. WATCH IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Incredible. Simply amazing.
